Three guest speakers will present various methods for minority and female entrepreneurs to financially prepare their companies for doing business with Denver International Airport during the upcoming 3rd Annual DIA Day. The full day event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Denver Renaissance Hotel at 3801 Quebec St.
DIA Day comes on the heels of the airport’s recent announcement of plans to spend $1.2 billion over the next seven years on improvements and expansion.
“In the next two years alone we will have over $400 million in construction and 30 concessions up for bid,” states Turner West, manager of aviation. “DIA Day is designed to prepare qualified minority and women business owners for partnering with us as we grow.”
Three guest speakers who will kick off the day include:
Edward Hartley Jr., President, Hartley & Company - This session is geared towards emerging growth company leaders who struggle with different aspects of the day-to-day elements of their business. Participants will learn about the six building blocks of business and how to engineer their company for increased capabilities and value.
Ron Solberg, Director of Marketing & Outreach, U.S. Small Business Administration - Solberg will explain to business owners what financial resources are available through his agency and how to use these resources to service DIA contracts.
Darrick L. Brown, CEO, Alternative Business Funding - With 27 years experience in banking and as the former director of small business for Wells Fargo Banks, Brown will prepare construction company owners for approaching banks for bonding funds.
Afternoon workshops will be conducted by airport senior staff, covering such nuts-and-bolts topics as insurance, badging, and certification requirements, the pre-bid process, and concession and construction opportunities.
A procurement trade fair with booths representing airport prime contractors will be featured throughout the day.
There is no charge for DIA Day. However, all participants must be pre-registered to attend.
