Denver OED Announces New Director of Business Development
Cec Ortiz, acting director of the Denver Office of Economic Development (OED), announced the appointment of Jeannine Carter as the director of OED’s division of business development. Carter most recently worked within real estate development in Denver. While working in real estate development, Carter oversaw several projects in Denver, Arapahoe and Jefferson counties. Carter earned her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and her master’s degree from the Northwestern University, J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. She replaces Mary Buckley, who joined Denver International Airport in September as director of government and community relations.

New CEO Named At Medical Center Of Aurora
HCA-HealthONE LLC announced the appointment of Dallas hospital officer John G. Hill as President and Chief Executive for The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) and Centennial Medical Plaza. Hill comes to Colorado from the Medical City Dallas Hospital, the flagship facility in HCA’s North Texas Division, where he began working as an Associate Administrator in 2001 and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2003. Hill earned his bachelor’s degree at Northern Arizona University; a Healthcare Administration Executive Certificate at Wharton School of Business; and his Master’s in Business Administration at Northern Arizona. Hill succeeds former CEO Sylvia Young. TMCA has been named “Best Hospital to Work for” in Colorado; a Mentor Hospital for the 100,000 Lives Campaign; and an HCA “Cardiovascular Center of Excellence.”

NFAA Honors Colorado’s Finest Artists
The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA), a not-for-profit organization that identifies and assists emerging artists, announced the first youngARTS™ Colorado Regional Awards. Fifty of Colorado’s finest young artists will be honored with cash awards totaling $25,000 in a recognition ceremony May 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jones Theater in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Colorado philanthropists Judi and Bob Newman will host the event. The Newmans have taken a leadership role in the creation of the youngARTS Colorado Regional Awards program. The evening will start with a cocktail reception, followed by special performances by several Colorado youngARTS winners.

Hickenlooper Announces Additions To Communications Team
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper announced that Lindy Eichenbaum Lent is transitioning from her service as the administration’s communications director to a senior advisor and special projects role, and Marlena Fernández Berkowitz is joining the administration today as its new communications director. As communications director, Berkowitz will assume responsibility for the administration’s media relations and external and internal communications. In her new position, Lent will serve as a senior advisor to the mayor on communications and strategic issues, while focusing her energy on special projects involving the Democratic National Convention, Denver Public Schools, Greenprint Denver, Civic Center and other opportunities as they arise.

Fouther Joins Denver Foundation
The Denver Foundation announces that Angelle C. Fouther joined the foundation as Communications Officer. Prior to joining the foundation, Angelle was the marketing manager of Denver Botanic Gardens for four years. She previously worked in communications and marketing in South Florida before relocating to Denver in 2003. Established in 1925, The Denver Foundation is a community foundation dedicated to improving life in Metro Denver through philanthropy, leadership, and strengthening the community.

DHCC Welcomes Garcia To Chamber Team
Margarita Garcia joined the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in March as the special assistant to the president, Jeff Campos. Her responsibilities include assisting the president in daily activities, scheduling, and leading many special projects for the DHCC. Before moving to Denver, Garcia lived in Los Angeles for five years where she worked as a producer in two post-production studios, The Missing Link Post Inc and UHF Studios. While working for these two companies, she was in charge of overseeing the postproduction process for TV commercials. This process included editing, creation of visual effects and color correction of spots. Garcia is originally from Bogota, Colombia.

Denver’s Public Works Announces New Director Of Street Maintenance
Denver's Public Works announced their selection for the new director of street maintenance, Kelly Duffy, in March. In this position, Duffy is responsible for close to 200 employees, budgets totaling over $30 million and the numerous and diverse projects and services in Denver assigned to street maintenance, including maintaining safe and usable streets and alleys, pavement profiling and resurfacing, asphalt patching, crack sealing, street sweeping, and snow and ice control. Duffy began her career with Street Maintenance in March 1999 as a senior agency budget analyst, preparing productivity reports and analysis of budget, work programs and work performance measures. She was promoted to administrative manager that November, to field superintendent in 2003, then to assistant director of street maintenance in 2005.

Christopher Appointed To RMRA Board Of Directors
Regional Transportation District (RTD) Director Bill Christopher has been selected to serve on the board of the Rocky Mountain Rail Authority (RMRA). RTD Chairman Chris Martinez appointed Christopher, who is the designated RTD Board of Directors representative to the RMRA board. The RMRA, formerly known as the Front Range Commuter Rail Authority, is an organization formed by inter-governmental agreements between Colorado cities, town, counties and transportation districts. RMRA will work with the Colorado Department of Transportation to conduct the Rocky Mountain Corridor study.
