Kenya Delegation Update - Denver Visit Delayed

The visit to Denver by Kenyan presidential candidates and political leaders, reported in the DUS June 2007 issue, was postponed to September. Changes in that nation's election calendar required many of the participants to stay in Kenya during June and July.

About 30 Kenyan statesmen and women are expected to travel to the Mile-High City to meet with the business community, educators, local and state officials, and a wide range of organizations from scientific to cultural. They plan to spend seven to 10 days in forums and receptions, many open to the public, with the aim of sharing their visions for Kenya's future, as well as developing economic and social partnerships for their nation.

Raila Odinga, the frontrunner for the Kenyan presidency, informed the Denver planning committee that September would be a good date for the delegation to visit, because by then, the election picture should be clearer.

Odinga is confident in his place in the new government administration, and said in September, he will be better prepared to lead a more realistic talk on the policies he intends to put in place.

One woman leader in the Kenyan delegation, Dr. Jacqueline Adhiambo Oduol, still visited Denver in June, due to the trip coinciding with other speaking engagements in the Netherlands and the U.S. Oduol, associate professor of linguistics at the United States International University in Nairobi and a Kenyan parliament candidate, toured and spoke with local leaders and interested people at the University of Denver, Centennial Airport, and other locations between June 21 and 29.
