Garcia and Torres Receive UOP Scholarships At MLK Luncheon
The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. still rings proudly as the University of Phoenix (UOP) honors the legacy of his life by providing two scholarships to working adults.
UOP established the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship in 2003. The goal of this scholarship is to afford two minority individuals the opportunity to pursue a higher education degree. The two $5,000 scholarships were awarded on Jan. 13 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Business Social Responsibility Awards Luncheon.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Sandra Garcia and Ulysses Torres. Both Garcia and Torres successfully articulated in writing what inspired them about Dr. King and why a college degree is important to them and their future goals. Dr. Darren Adamson, Vice President/Campus Director, Colorado Campuses, will recognize each recipient at the luncheon celebration on Friday.
Scholarship recipients were selected based on desire to pursue education, passion for Dr. King’s life's work and ethnic diversity.
